Text
- Bizning mahallada besh yuzga yaqin yashovchi bor, koʻpchiligi qari odamlar. Oʻtgan yili biz eski oʻyin maydonchani yangiladik. Pulni ikki oy yigʻdik, mahalliy hokimiyat ham hadya qildi. Koʻngillilar ishni navbat bilan qildilar. Endi maydoncha yonida favvora ham bor.About five hundred people live in our mahalla; the majority are elderly. Last year we renewed the old playground. The money was collected for two months; the local authority donated too. The volunteers worked in turns. Now there is a fountain beside the playground.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Uzbek?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
