Բորբոքում, հետազոտություն, ցավ: a noun made from a verb
Half the words about illness are familiar verbs with a tail: բորբոքվել → բորբոքում, ներարկել → ներարկում, զննել → զննում. For example: “Դեղերից հետո բորբոքումն անցավ” — After the medication the inflammation went away. A rule from the Armenian course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
Half the words about illness are familiar verbs with a tail: բորբոքվել → բորբոքում (borbok'um), ներարկել → ներարկում (nerarkum), զննել → զննում (znnum).
The tail -ում (-um) names the action: բուժել (buzhel) treat → բուժում (buzhum) treatment, որոշել (voroshel) decide → որոշում (voroshum) a decision. The sense is always the same — a process or its result.
For something you cannot touch, take -ություն: առողջ (arroghj) → առողջություն (arroghjut'yun) health, հետազոտել → հետազոտություն (hetazotut'yun) a study.
The trap: -ում turns up in three jobs. Հարցում (hartsum) is a survey, հարցնում եմ is I ask, սենյակում (senyakum) is in the room. The neighbours decide: before եմ (em) it is a verb, in the 'where' slot it is a place.
