How it works
With words for people the general plural rule breaks down, and these shapes are easier learned by heart.
Մարդ (mard), a person, gives մարդիկ (mardik), never 'մարդեր'. Կին (kin), a woman, gives կանայք. Տղամարդ (tghamard) gives տղամարդիկ, տիկին (tikin) gives տիկնայք.
People are counted with the word հոգի (hogi), a soul: տասը հոգի (tasə hogi) is ten people. Քանի՞ հոգի եք (k'ani hogi ek') asks how many of you there are. It sounds more natural than տասը մարդ (tasə mard).
The trap: after a number the word stays singular — հինգ բնակիչ (hing bnakich), քսան քաղաքացի (k'san k'aghak'atsi), with no -ներ.
