Por ejemplo: «This is the cheapest flat we have seen» — Es el piso más barato que hemos visto.
De una a dos sílabas, terminación -est: cheap → the cheapest, big → the biggest (consonante doblada), easy → the easiest (la y pasa a i). De tres arriba, the most: the most expensive flat, the most comfortable armchair. Y cuatro viven por su cuenta, de memoria: good → the best, bad → the worst, far → the furthest, little → the least.
El artículo the es obligatorio — el superlativo es por sentido único en el mundo: the cheapest flat in this area. Y dos preposiciones que se confunden: in para lugar y conjunto (the best area in the city), of para tiempo y grupo (the worst day of the month, the biggest of the three) — el «de» español de «el mejor de la ciudad» y «el peor día del mes».
By far — «con diferencia»: by far the cheapest. One of the — «uno de los más», y detrás va plural: one of the best areas. Y el giro con ever: the best flat we have ever seen — comparar con todo lo vivido. Por último, «cuanto antes, mejor» se arma doblando: the sooner, the better, the smaller the flat, the lower the rent.
