-masdim and -magandim: what did not happen
A story about what did not happen is made of negation plus the past. For example: “Koʻrmasam, ishonmasdim.” — Had I not seen it myself, I would not have believed it. A rule from the Uzbek course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
A story about what did not happen is made of negation plus the past.
The negative tail -mas sticks to the stem: ishon-mas-dim — I would not have believed. That is, "not believe" plus "it was" = "I would not have believed". A woman says it with the same word; two people — also.
The form -magandim is "I did not …, as it turned out": kutma-gan-dim — I did not expect. Here the participle "-gan" plus "edi" in compressed form: did not expect back then, and so it went.
Beside it works the frame boʻlmaganda — "had it not been for": Sizning yordamingiz boʻlmaganda, kechikardim — had it not been for your help, I would have been late. The condition stands first, the consequence second.

How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
