ครึ่ง, หนึ่ง ใน สาม, เท่า: shares and multiples without a single ending
A share, a multiple and a difference are three different instruments, and confusing them is expensive. For example: “น้ำ ครึ่ง แก้ว พอ” — Half a glass of water will be enough. A rule from the Thai course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
A share, a multiple and a difference are three different instruments, and confusing them is expensive.
A half is the special word khrueng: chua mong khrueng — an hour and a half. Other shares are counted plainly. nueng nai saam — "one of three", a third; nueng nai si — a quarter.
A multiple is the word thao: song thao — twice as much; saam thao — three times as much. It grew twofold — add pen: khuen pen song thao — grew twofold.
The difference goes through the comparative particle kwa: paeng kwa — dearer; thuuk kwa — cheaper. By exactly how much — a share will say: thuuk long nueng nai saam — cheaper by a third. And do not confuse: song thao — how many times over; song bat — by how much.
