How it works
English makes a name from a verb: to work — work, to produce — production. Thai attaches kan to the deed and khwam to the quality, and the word stays itself.
kan lays a name on the deed: kan tham ngaan — work; kan phalit — production; kan sue — a purchase; kan obom — an induction. Any verb of the course can be turned into a process this way.
khwam lays a name on the quality: khwam suk — joy; khwam klua — fear; khwam sao — sadness; khwam jam pen — necessity. You assembled "happiness" and "fear" with them — the same device.
They must not be confused: kan tham ngaan — work as a deed; khwam sam ret — success as a feeling of the result. Qualities need khwam; deeds need kan.
