Character is assembled with a tail: -ly, -syz, -shañ, -qor, -paz
A character trait here is nearly always a noun plus a tail. Hunting for a separate word is a waste of time; hunt for the root instead. For example: “Ол еңбекқор, бірақ сәл қыңыр” — He is hardworking, but a little stubborn. A rule from the Kazakh course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
A character trait here is nearly always a noun plus a tail. Hunting for a separate word is a waste of time; hunt for the root instead.
The tail -ly, -dy or -ty means having it. Symbat, bearing, gives symbatty, stately; tärbie, upbringing, gives tärbieli, well brought up. Looks are made the same way: uzyn boily, tall; aq shashty, grey-haired.
The tail -syz means without it, the exact opposite. Qyzyq, interest, gives qyzyqsyz, boring. Uiat, shame, gives uiatsyz, shameless. Learn such words in pairs: zhağymdy and zhağymsyz.
The trap lies in the narrower tails. Ashushañ is quick to flare up. Eñbekqor is hardworking, but mansapqor, built the same way, is a careerist.
Table
| The tail | What it adds | The root | The word |
|---|---|---|---|
| -ly / -di / -ty | having the quality | symmbat — stature | symmbatty — stately |
| -syz / -siz | lacking the quality | qyzyq — interest | qyzyqsyz — boring |
| -shañ / -şeñ | prone to something | ashu — anger | ashushañ — hot-tempered |
| -qor / -kör | devoted to the cause (also as reproach) | eñbek — labor | eñbekqor — hardworking |
| -paz / -pez | loving the occupation | öner — art | önerpaz — artistic |
| -shaq / -şek | prone by nature | umyt — to forget | umytshaq — forgetful |
By example
- Ол еңбекқор, бірақ сәл қыңырHe is hardworking, but a little stubborn
- Тәрбиелі балаға ұрсудың қажеті жоқThere is no need to scold a well-bred child
- Бұл өте сапасыз мата екенThis fabric, it turns out, is of very poor quality
How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
