Istemeidi, zhöndeuge kelemedi: how to say it does not work
Negation here is not a separate word but a tail inside the verb. Its place is fixed: straight after the stem, before the tail of tense. For example: “Түйме басылмайды, жөндеуге апару керек” — The button does not press; it has to be taken to the repair shop. A rule from the Kazakh course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
Negation here is not a separate word but a tail inside the verb. Its place is fixed: straight after the stem, before the tail of tense.
The basic shape is -ma, -ba or -pa, picked by the last sound of the stem. Qospa is do not switch it on; zhazba is do not write. In the present and future it merges with the ending and gives -maidy. Isteidi is it works; istemeidi is it does not work.
The past has two ways. The plain -mady: istemedi, it did not work. And the turn with zhoq: istegen zhoq, it has not worked. The second is commoner and softer in speech.
The trap: there is no double negation. Eshkim kelmedi is nobody came, word for word nobody did-not-come.

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
