To say 'the most', glue ամենա- onto the front with no space: ամենալավ ուսանողը, the best student. For example: “Նա (na) դասարանի ամենալավ աշակերտն է” — He is the best student in the class. A rule from the Armenian course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
To say 'the most', glue ամենա- onto the front with no space: ամենալավ ուսանողը, the best student.
If no noun follows, the -ը tail moves onto the adjective itself: Նա (na) ամենալավն է (na amenalavn e), he is the best. Without that -ը the phrase dangles.
The second way is the ending -ագույն at the back: լավագույն (lavaguyn) ընկերս (ənkers) (lavaguyn ənkers), my best friend. It sounds more bookish and does not fit every word. In set phrases, though, it is the only option: բարձրագույն կրթություն (bardzraguyn krt'ut'yun), higher education.
So watch out: 'ամենաբարձր կրթություն' is not said. Where English would reach for 'highest', Armenian keeps a ready-made word ending in -ագույն.
