The road is explained with verbs: ตรง ไป, เลี้ยว, ข้าม, ถึง

An English direction leans on prepositions: "straight, across, as far as". A Thai one leans on verbs: the road is a sequence of deeds. trong pai — "go straight"; liao sai — "turn left". kham thanon — "cross the road"; theung sut thanon — "walk to the end of the street". For example: “ตรง ไป แล้ว เลี้ยว ขวา” — Straight, then to the right. A rule from the Thai course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.

How it works

An English direction leans on prepositions: "straight, across, as far as". A Thai one leans on verbs: the road is a sequence of deeds. trong pai — "go straight"; liao sai — "turn left". kham thanon — "cross the road"; theung sut thanon — "walk to the end of the street".

The verb pai, "go", ends each step and points the action away from you. The return is klap: klap ban — "home", the same turn, only back.

Position is shown by yuu and a place word. yuu fang trong kham — "across the way"; yuu khang lang — "behind". yuu hua mum — "on the corner". The simplest question: yuu thinai — "where is it?".

And the last thing: Thais measure a road in time, not in meters — doen thao ha nati, "five minutes on foot".

How the rule settles in your head

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
