Two meters long: number, measure and 'about'
Tamil measures one way, and it is worth learning once: number, measure, noun, with nothing changing in between. ரெண்டு மீற்றர் கயிறு 'a two-meter rope', ஒரு லீற்றர் பால் 'a litre of milk'. The measure stays singular: பத்து கிலோ. For example: “இந்த அறை ஏறத்தாள நாலு மீற்றர் நீளமா இருக்கு” — This room is about four meters long. A rule from the Tamil course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
Tamil measures one way, and it is worth learning once: number, measure, noun, with nothing changing in between. ரெண்டு மீற்றர் கயிறு (reṇḍu mīṟṟar kayiṟu) 'a two-meter rope', ஒரு லீற்றர் பால் (oru līṟṟar pāl) 'a litre of milk'. The measure stays singular: பத்து கிலோ (pattu kilō).
To say 'the length is three meters', the feature goes at the end with no verb: நீளம் மூண்டு மீற்றர் (nīḷam mūṇḍu mīṟṟar). To pin a measure onto a thing, add -ஆ (-ā): ரெண்டு மீற்றர் நீளமா (reṇḍu mīṟṟar nīḷamā) 'two meters long'.
There are two words for asking. எவ்வளவு (evvaḷavu) is for what you do not count one by one: எவ்வளவு எடை (evvaḷavu eḍai)?. எத்தனை (ettaṉai) is for pieces: எத்தனை பேர் (ettaṉai pēr)?.
'About' stands before the number, not after: ஏறத்தாள நூறு (ēṟattāḷa nūṟu). There is a purely Tamil move too — two numbers in a row with the tail -ஓ: ரெண்டோ மூண்டோ 'two or three'.

| how many (items) | எத்தனை | எத்தனை பேர்? |
| about | ஏறத்தாள before the number | ஏறத்தாள நூறு |
| two or three | number + -ஓ twice | ரெண்டோ மூண்டோ |
| and more | number + -க்கு மேல | பத்து கிலோக்கு மேல |
| double | மடங்கு | ரெண்டு மடங்கு |

How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
