How it works
Slovenian turns verbs into nouns readily, and it keeps several tails for the job. Each one carries its own shade.
-nje is a process, an action going on: brati → branje, peti → petje, nadaljevati → nadaljevanje. From any unfinished verb such a word can be coined on the spot.
-tev is a single act or its result: predstaviti → predstavitev, potrditi → potrditev. The difference is audible: potrjevanje is long and repeated, potrditev happens once.
-ba is a business as a settled thing: služiti → služba, ponuditi → ponudba. Or there can be no tail at all: nastopiti → nastop, izgubiti → izguba. The short word names the event, -nje names how it is done.
