English

The future: bom + the -l participle

The future is two pieces. A special form of biti — bom, boš, bo — plus the same -l form you already use for the past. Bom delal — I will work. Bom naredil — I will get it done. For example: “Jutri bom šel na letališče” — Tomorrow I'll go to the airport. A rule from the Slovenian course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.

How it works

The future is two pieces. A special form of bitibom, boš, bo — plus the same -l form you already use for the past. Bom delal — I will work. Bom naredil — I will get it done.

Only the helper is new. The -l form keeps gender and number here too. Bova delala — the two of us will work. Bomo delali — three or more of us.

Finished and unfinished both ride on bom. Bom pisal pismo — I'll be writing a letter. Bom napisal pismo — I'll write it. English 'I'll write' covers both at once.

The verb 'to be' is the exception: its future is just bom, boš, bo, with no -l form at all. Jutri bom doma — tomorrow I'm at home. Nobody says 'bom bil'.

How the rule settles in your head

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
