How it works

පොත් කඩේ (pot kaḍē) is "a book shop", කතා පුවත (katā puvata) is "the plot", සපත්තු අලුත්වැඩියාව (sapattu alutvæḍiyāva) is "shoe repair". The -ය or -ව of the first word just disappears.
Read the pair from right to left. The last word is the thing meant, everything in front of it describes it. ගායක කණ්ඩායම (gāyaka kaṇḍāyama) is "a singing group", a choir; වාර්තා චිත්‍රපටය (vārtā citrapaṭaya) is a documentary.
The trap: the words cannot be swapped. පොත් කඩේ (pot kaḍē) is a book shop, while කඩේ (kaḍē) පොත් (pot) (kaḍē pot) is "the shop's books". Here the order is the link itself.
