Text

  • Мне предложили работу в другом городе, и третью неделю я не могу решить. С одной стороны, платят выше, и такая возможность выпадает не каждый год. С другой стороны, пришлось бы переехать, а все друзья и родители здесь. Друг считает, что я преувеличиваю: по его опыту, разница в деньгах меньше, чем кажется. Мне кажется, он отчасти прав, однако рано или поздно выбирать всё равно придётся — до пятницы.
Mne predlozhili rabotu v drugom gorode, i tretyu nedelyu ya ne mogu reshit. S odnoy storony, platyat vyshe, i takaya vozmozhnost vypadaet ne kazhdyy god. S drugoy storony, prishlos by pereekhat, a vse druzya i roditeli zdes. Drug schitaet, chto ya preuvelichivayu: po ego opytu, raznitsa v dengakh menshe, chem kazhetsya. Mne kazhetsya, on otchasti prav, odnako rano ili pozdno vybirat vsyo ravno pridyotsya — do pyatnitsy.
I was offered a job in another city, and for the third week now I cannot decide. On the one hand, the pay is higher, and such a chance does not come every year. On the other hand, I would have to move, and all my friends and parents are here. My friend thinks I exaggerate: by his experience, the difference in money is smaller than it seems. I think he is partly right, still sooner or later I will have to choose — by Friday.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What was the narrator offered?
  2. What speaks for the move?
  3. What does the friend think?
  4. By what deadline must he decide?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Russian?

B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
