Seven missed calls
A short text in Russian at level A2. The translation sits next to it: reading with a dictionary is still too early at this level, and without support it will not happen at all. In the morning I saw seven missed calls on my phone. At night I had turned the volume off and forgot to turn it back…
Text
In the morning I saw seven missed calls on my phone. At night I had turned the volume off and forgot to turn it back — the phone was asleep, like me. Six of the calls were from mom, and one was from an unknown number. I wrote mom a message at once that everything was fine and that I would call in the evening. I did not answer the unknown number: it was an ad.
Comprehension questions

- Why was the phone silent at night?
- What did I do first thing in the morning?
- Why didn't I answer the last call?
Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Russian?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
