Деньги собирали два месяца, часть дала и местная власть. Волонтёры работали по очереди, каждые выходные по две группы. Соседи, которые раньше даже не здоровались, теперь стали друзьями. Last year the neighbors decided to renovate the old playground together. They collected money for two months; the local authority gave part of it too. The volunteers worked in turns, two groups every weekend. Neighbors who hadn't even said hello before are now friends. Besides the playground we got a fountain and benches around it.

What level do you need to read this text in Russian?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
