Text

  • Rano dostałem siedem połączeń. Telefon był w plecaku, więc nic nie słyszałem. Sześć połączeń było od mamy, a siódme od hotelu z Krakowa. Mamie wysłałem wiadomość: wszystko w porządku, zadzwonię wieczorem. Nieznajomemu nie odpowiedziałem — to była reklama.
In the morning I received seven calls. The phone lay in the backpack, so I heard nothing. Six calls were from mum, and the seventh — from a hotel in Kraków. To mum I sent a message: everything is fine, I will call in the evening. The stranger I did not answer — it was an advertisement.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. How many calls were there?
  2. Where was the phone in the morning?
  3. Who were the six calls from?
  4. Why did he not answer the seventh call?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Polish?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
