Grać w, grać na, uprawiać, chodzić na: what you do and which case it takes
English says play football, play the guitar, do sport and go to the gym. Polish uses a different pattern for each, and the wrong one gives you away. For example: “Gram w siatkówkę, a moja siostra chodzi na gimnastykę” — I play volleyball and my sister does gymnastics. A rule from the Polish course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
English says play football, play the guitar, do sport and go to the gym. Polish uses a different pattern for each, and the wrong one gives you away.
Grać w plus the object form, the shape of a noun a verb acts on, is for games with rules: grać w piłkę nożną, grać w koszykówkę, grać w karty.
Grać na plus the at-form is for instruments: grać na gitarze, grać na pianinie, grać na skrzypcach. Think play on the guitar.
Uprawiać is the general do: uprawiać sport, uprawiać jogę. Regular classes take chodzić na plus the object form: chodzić na siłownię. Supporting a team is kibicować drużynie, and playing against one is grać przeciwko drużynie. Both use the dative, the to-whom form.

How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
