Last month my friend and I quarrelled and did not speak for two weeks. It all began with a trifle: I was irritated and scolded him in front of everyone. He was hurt and said I was accusing him of somebody else's mistake. Then I felt ashamed, but I was shy about calling first. The loneliness was heavy, and I missed our talks very much. At last I wrote to him that it had been a misunderstanding, and asked forgiveness. He answered within an hour: "I understand you; I shouldn't have kept silent either." We made up, and the next day we had coffee together.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What did the quarrel begin with?

  2. Why didn't the narrator call first?

  3. How did the narrator explain what had happened in his letter?

  4. What did the friends do after making up?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Western Armenian?

B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
