Բանկի դիմաց, տան հետևում: the word stands after, not before

English puts its little word in front: 'across from the bank'. Armenian puts it after the noun — բանկի դիմաց, word for word 'bank across-from'. For example: “Դեղատունը բանկի դիմաց է, կայանատեղին՝ շենքի հետևում” — The pharmacy is across from the bank, the parking is behind the building. A rule from the Armenian course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.

How it works

English puts its little word in front: 'across from the bank'. Armenian puts it after the noun — բանկի դիմաց (banki dimats), word for word 'bank across-from'.

The noun in front of it takes the tail (-i): դպրոցի դիմաց (dprotsi dimats) across from the school, սեղանի վրա (seghani vra) on the table. With տուն (tun) the tail is irregular: տան հետևում (tan hetevum), behind the house.

Out on the street you will want դիմաց (dimats) across from, հետևում (hetevum) behind, կողքին (koghk'in) next to, վրա (vra) on, տակ (tak) under, մեջ (mej) inside.

The trap: տանը (tanə) is at home, while տան մեջ (tan mej) is inside the house. You need the helper word only when the side of the thing matters.

How the rule settles in your head

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
