Լիճ → լճակ, արև → արևոտ: how nature words are built
Half the words for nature are not new roots but familiar ones with a tail. Read the tail and you guess the meaning at a glance. For example: “Այգում փոքր լճակ կա, կողքին՝ առվակ” — In the park there is a small pond, with a brook beside it. A rule from the Armenian course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
Half the words for nature are not new roots but familiar ones with a tail. Read the tail and you guess the meaning at a glance.
-ակ makes things small: լիճ (lich) lake → լճակ (lchak) pond, առու (arru) stream → առվակ (arrvak) brook. The root often slims down: լիճ loses its ի (i), առու turns ու (u) into վ.
-ոտ means 'full of it': արև (arev) sun → արևոտ (arevot) sunny, կեղտ (keght) dirt → կեղտոտ (keghtot) dirty, քար (k'ar) stone → քարոտ (k'arot) stony.
Long words are simply two roots in a row: ջուր (jur) + փոս (p'os) = ջրափոս (jrap'os), a puddle. The trap: the first root shortens, so ջուր inside a word looks like ջր-.

How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
