Text
ârus lebâse âruse sefid â dâste gâli az gâlhâe sahrâi dâsht. bad az agd, ârus â dâmâd kik râ bâridand â memânhâ pâl-e hedie dâdand. âmmu sâkhanrâni bâland kard ke ziyod tâl kashid, vali ksi narâzi nashâd. shab gure râshan kardand â memânhâ ta nazdik sâbh mândand. My sister’s wedding was in the village where our grandfather and grandmother live. In the morning the women set a long table under the tree and decorated the house. The bride wore a white wedding dress and a bouquet of field flowers. After the ceremony the newlyweds cut the cake, and the guests gave money as a present. Uncle gave a long speech that dragged too long, but nobody stayed displeased. In the evening a bonfire was lit, and the guests stayed almost till morning.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Persian?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
