Text

emtehâne rânandegi râ dar bist â nâh sâlegi dâdam, kheyli dirtar az dustân. mârebi gât ârâm bâran, vgarne az heydzhân eshtebâh mi-kânam. dar emtehân mâulâm shâd sakhttarine ghesmat, pâk kâne beyn dâ mâshin ast. ziyod be rast pichidam, vali khâdam râ dârâst kardam â âzmân-gir chizi nagât. ta dzha-yi ke mi-dânam kheylihâ hâmân bâre avval ghâbul nemishavand. man hâmân bâre avval ghâbul shâdam, yeginan barâe inke har dzhâme tamrin mi-kardam.
I took the driving exam at twenty-nine, much later than my friends. The instructor said to drive calmly, otherwise from the excitement I would make a mistake. At the exam it turned out that the hardest thing is parking between two cars. I took too much to the right, but corrected myself, and the examiner said nothing. As far as I know, many do not pass the first time. I passed first time, surely because I practiced every Saturday.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. At what age did he take the exam?

  2. What did the instructor advise?

  3. What turned out the hardest?

  4. Why did he pass first time?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Persian?

B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
