Bayramda, bayramga, bayramdan: holidays through tails

The occasion and its time here hang on tails attached to the word "holiday", and each tail is its own role. For example: “Bayramda dasturxon yozamiz, mehmonlar keladi.” — On the holiday we set the table; guests arrive. A rule from the Uzbek course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.

How it works

The occasion and its time here hang on tails attached to the word "holiday", and each tail is its own role.

-da — "on the holiday, while it runs": bayramda mehmonlar keladi. -ga — "toward the holiday": bayramga dasturxon yozamiz. -dan — "from the holiday": bayramdan keyin uxlaymiz.

The eve is bayram arafasida: the last evening before the feast. Before the holiday is bayramdan oldin, after it — bayramdan keyin. One tail -dan serves both "before" and "after" next to oldin and keyin.

Vowel harmony changes the tail: kun → kunda, bayram → bayramda, nonushta → nonushtada. One rule: the last vowel of the word commands the vowel of the tail.

How the rule settles in your head

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
