Tezroq, eng tez: the degrees of a quality
A quality comes in steps, and the steps are assembled with two tails. For example: “Bugun kechagidan qimmatroq.” — Today is more expensive than yesterday. A rule from the Uzbek course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
A quality comes in steps, and the steps are assembled with two tails.
The comparative is -roq: tez → tezroq — "faster", yaxshi → yaxshiroq — "better", katta → kattaroq — "bigger". Vowel harmony keeps watch: kichik → kichikroq, qimmat → qimmatroq.
The superlative is eng before the word: eng tez — "the fastest", eng yaxshi — "the best". The steps read in a row: yaxshi, yaxshiroq, eng yaxshi.
"Than" goes through the tail -dan: bugun kechagidan qimmatroq — "today is more expensive than yesterday". "As ... as possible" is imkon qadar, and it sticks to any quality: imkon qadar sokin — "as quiet as possible".
Table
| quality | comparative | superlative | in plain words |
|---|---|---|---|
| yaxshi | yaxshiroq | eng yaxshi | good — better — the best |
| yomon | yomonroq | eng yomon | bad — worse — the worst |
| tez | tezroq | eng tez | fast — faster — the fastest |
| katta | kattaroq | eng katta | big — bigger — the biggest |
| kichik | kichikroq | eng kichik | small — smaller — the smallest |
| qimmat | qimmatroq | eng qimmat | expensive — more expensive — the most expensive |
By example
- Imkon qadar sokin gapiring.Speak as quietly as possible.
How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
