Text

subah dadi ko gaon se khat aaia. khat main nana likhte hain ke bagh main aam pak ge hain. dadi dzhawab likhti hain aur khat rawana kar diti hain. main bhi ek dzhumla likhta hun: dada, dzhaldi aaie. dadi hansti hain aur kehti hain ke hum garmi main gaon dzhaen ge.
In the morning a letter came to grandmother from the village. In the letter grandfather writes that the mangoes have ripened in the garden. Grandmother writes an answer and sends the letter. I also write one sentence: grandfather, come sooner. Grandmother laughs and says that in the summer we will go to the village.

  2. What has ripened in the garden?

  3. What does grandmother do with the answer?

  4. When will the family go to the village?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Urdu?

A1. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
