Number and measure: do, das — and the word stands as it stood

The noun after a number does not change: teen metre lambi — three metre long. Das litre paani — ten litre of water. The number carries the count, and the word keeps its dictionary form, as if there were no number at all. For example: “یہ رسی تین میٹر لمبی ہے” — This rope is three metres long. A rule from the Urdu course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.

How it works

The noun after a number does not change: teen metre lambi — three metre long. Das litre paani — ten litre of water. The number carries the count, and the word keeps its dictionary form, as if there were no number at all.

Fractions and measures work the same: aadha kilo — half a kilo; chauthaai bhari — a quarter full. The measure stands before the word, and the word does not move.

Only the adjective follows the count, and only in gender: teen metre lambi (feminine rope) but teen metre lamba (masculine stick). The count itself is deaf to both.

How the rule settles in your head

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
