How it works
Terms of two or three words — சரக்குப் பட்டியல் (sarakkup paṭṭiyal), உத்தரவாதக் காலம் (uttaravādak kālam) — are not phrases but single compound nouns. Three rules build them, and then half of these words need no cramming.
First: the defining word comes first and stays bare. No ending, no 'which': சரக்கு (sarakku) 'goods' plus பட்டியல் (paṭṭiyal) 'list' gives a delivery note. English would slip 'of' in there; Tamil puts nothing.
Second: the first word loses its -ம். மொத்தம் (mottam) gives மொத்த எண்ணிக்கை (motta eṇṇikkai), கட்டிடம் (kaṭṭiḍam) gives கட்டிட வேலைத்தளம் (kaṭṭiḍa vēlaittaḷam).
Third: the consonant at the seam doubles. சரக்கு plus பட்டியல் gives சரக்குப் பட்டியல், and only க, ச, த, ப double. So if the word is missing, build it: பாவிக்கிற காலம் (pāvikkiṟa kālam) 'service life' is in no dictionary and clear to anyone.
