English

Naj-: the superlative and how to boost it

You already build the comparative: drag → dražji, dober → boljši. The top degree comes from it in one move: glue on the prefix naj-. dražji → najdražji, boljši → najboljši, višji → najvišji. No separate word for 'most' is needed. For example: “To je najboljša ponudba za delo do zdaj” — This is the best job offer so far. A rule from the Slovenian course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.

How it works

You already build the comparative: dragdražji, doberboljši. The top degree comes from it in one move: glue on the prefix naj-. dražjinajdražji, boljšinajboljši, višjinajvišji. No separate word for 'most' is needed.

The long form works the same way: bolj zahtevennajbolj zahteven. The other side is manj and najmanj: najmanj zanimiv — least interesting.

Adverbs behave identically: hitrohitrejenajhitreje, velikovečnajveč. Familiar words come from there: najprej — first, najbolje — best, najraje — most gladly.

What you compare against comes after od: dražji od najemnine. The top degree has its own words: najboljši med kandidati, najvišja plača v podjetju. To boost it, add daleč: daleč najboljši.

How the rule settles in your head

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
