An experiment in class
A short text in Russian at level A2. The translation sits next to it: reading with a dictionary is still too early at this level, and without support it will not happen at all. In the lesson about nature we did an experiment with water from three places. Our group took a sample and examined it…
Text
- На уроке про природу мы делали опыт с водой из трёх мест. Наша группа взяла пробу и внимательно её рассмотрела. Наша догадка была такой: вода из ручья самая чистая. Первый замер показал другое, и догадку пришлось опровергнуть. Учительница сказала: наблюдение важнее догадки. В конце мы записали вывод и нашли в числах ясную закономерность.Na uroke pro prirodu my delali opyt s vodoy iz tryokh mest. Nasha gruppa vzyala probu i vnimatelno eyo rassmotrela. Our guess was this: water from the stream is the cleanest. The first measurement showed something else, and the guess had to be refuted. The teacher said: observation matters more than a guess. At the end we wrote down the conclusion and found a clear pattern in the numbers.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Russian?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
