Text

  • Ola zaczyna studia na wydziale historii. Mieszka w akademiku blisko uniwersytetu. Plan lekcji ma ciężki: wykłady co dzień i seminarium w piątek. Najtrudniejszy przedmet to matematyka, ale literatura jest ciekawa. Podręczniki są drogie, dlatego Ola pracuje dorywczo w bibliotece. Pierwszy egzamin będzie w styczniu.
Olya is starting her studies at the history faculty. She lives in a dormitory close to the university. Her timetable is heavy: lectures every day and a seminar on Friday. The hardest subject is mathematics, but literature is interesting. The textbooks are expensive, so Olya works part-time in the library. The first exam will be in January.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What does Olya study?
  2. Where does she live?
  3. Which subject is the hardest?
  4. Why does she work part-time?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Polish?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
