  • W sobotę rano idę na targ z przyjacielem. Warzywa i owoce są tam tańsze niż w sklepie. Kupuję kilogram jabłek i pół kilograma sera. Sprzedawca pyta, czy torba jest potrzebna. Po targu jemy obiad w małej restauracji blisko domu.
On Saturday morning my friend and I go to the market. Vegetables and fruit are cheaper there than in the shop. I buy a kilogram of apples and half a kilo of cheese. The seller asks whether I need a bag. After the market we have lunch in a small restaurant close to home.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. Where does he go on Saturday morning?
  2. Why does he buy vegetables at the market?
  3. What does he buy?
  4. What do they do after the market?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Polish?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
