How it works

When the state has an owner, he stands in the dative: Jest zimno — the room is cold; Zimno mi — I am cold. By the same pattern go gorąco mi, trudno mi, przykro mi — I am hot, I find it hard, I am sorry.
Trzeba — general necessity, no person named; można — one may, it is allowed; nie wolno — forbidden for real, a sign on the door. After all three the verb stands in its base form, and nothing needs conjugating.
And about an event with no doer: Mówią, że... — they say that...; Widać stąd dworzec — the station can be seen from here; Słychać muzykę — music can be heard. That is how a world with action but no actor is described.

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
