Dastarqan zhauu, köñil aitui, qonaq etu: a verb of two words
Half of the English verbs here are not verbs at all. They are a noun plus a service verb: temeki shegu, talap etu, bas tartu. How it works
Half of the English verbs here are not verbs at all. They are a noun plus a service verb: temeki shegu, talap etu, bas tartu.
A dictionary will not help you. Looking up to treat someone is useless; what exists is qonaq, a guest, plus etu, to do.
Etu is the most general: talap etu, to demand; qonaq etu, to treat. Aitu covers everything said aloud: alğys aitu, to thank; köñil aitu, to give condolences. Bolu marks a state, not an act: qarsy bolu, to be against; aulaq bolu, to keep away.
The trap: tails of tense go only on the service verb, as in alğys aittym and qarsy boldy. So does negation: bas tartpady. But the of-what tail goes on the first word: usynystan bas tartu.
