  • الغسالة القديمة تصدر ضجيجا في كل غسلة. أولا فحصت الأسلاك والمقبس، ولا عيب فيها. بعد ذلك قرأت دليل الاستخدام وفتحت اللوح الخلفي. داخلها كان هناك برغي مفكوك، فأرجعته بمفتاح إنجليزي. الضجيج قل، لكن مصباح يرمش، ففتحت طلب صيانة. قال المصلاح إن الكلفة قليلة، وأن الإصلاح ممكن.

The old washing machine is noisy at every wash. First I checked the wires and the socket — there was no flaw in them. Then I read the manual and opened the back panel. Inside was an unscrewed screw, and I returned it with a wrench. The noise became less, but the bulb blinks, and I opened a request at the service. The repairman said the cost is small and the repair is possible.

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  3. What was found inside?
  4. What did the repairman say?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Arabic?

B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
