Text
My orenduvaly mashynu na tyzhden i poikhaly vzdovzh moria. Strakhovka vkhodyla u vartist, zapasne koleso lezhalo v bahazhnyku, ale znadobylosia lyshe raz. Naibilshe zapamiatalasia fortetsia nad richkoiu: hid rozpovidav dvi hodyny, i nikhto ne nudhuvav. Mashynu my povernuly vchasno, z povnym bakom. We rented a car for a week and drove along the sea. Insurance was included in the price; the spare tire lay in the trunk and was needed only once. What I remember most is the fortress above the river: the guide talked for two hours, and no one was bored. We returned the car on time, with a full tank.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Ukrainian?
B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
