The first thing that trips an English speaker in Turkish numbers is the order inside a fraction.
The bottom comes first, the top second. One third is üçte bir, literally in three, one. The bottom number takes the where-tail, and the top follows bare: dörtte bir, a quarter; yüzde on, ten percent.
Half lives in two words. yarım is a half on its own: yarım ekmek, half a loaf. buçuk is a half beside a whole number: bir buçuk saat, an hour and a half. Saying bir yarım is not possible.
Multiples come from kat: ikiye katlandı, it doubled. The trap is the plural: after a number the noun stays singular, beş kitap, never beş kitaplar.
