The first rule — do not interrupt. If a person has not finished speaking, wait a little. The second — if you did not hear, ask again without embarrassment. Asking 'what did you say?' is not a mistake; the mistake is nodding without really understanding. The third — if the topic of conversation has wandered off, one can say 'let us return to the topic'. The fourth, and this is the main one: even the word 'no' has its own order. A straight 'no' is not said; they say 'maybe, another time' or 'I will think about it'. Not knowing that this is what it means, you will wait and be deceived. And the last: having finished the conversation, say 'it was pleasant to talk'. The words are short, but they work much.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Tamil?
B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
