Text

  • W sobotę jadę pociągiem do Gdańska, nad morze. Bilet tam i z powrotem mam już od wtorku. Pociąg odjeżdża rano z dworca blisko domu. Pakuję walizkę i plecak — bagaż podręczny wystarczy. Na plaży będziemy pływać i opalać się z przyjacielem.
On Saturday I am taking the train to Gdańsk, to the sea. I have had a return ticket since Tuesday. The train leaves in the morning from the station close to home. I am packing a suitcase and a backpack — hand luggage will be enough. At the beach my friend and I will swim and sunbathe.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. Where is the narrator going?
  2. When was the ticket bought?
  3. What is the narrator taking along?
  4. What will they do at the beach?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Polish?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
