LingoflyA small quarrel
A short text in Kazakh at level A2. The translation sits next to it: reading with a dictionary is still too early at this level, and without support it will not happen at all. Yesterday I quarreled with a colleague because he did not listen to me. I was angry and spoke sharply, and he snapped…
Text
Keshe äriptesimmen daulasyp qaldym, sebebi ol meni tyñdamady. Men ashuly edim zhäne qatty söiledim, ol da mağan ūrysty. Ol küldi de: eshteñe etpeidi, ekeumiz de sabyrly bolaiyq, dedi.Yesterday I quarreled with a colleague because he did not listen to me. I was angry and spoke sharply, and he snapped back at me. In the evening I worried and could not sleep: one must know how to put anger away, and I could not. This morning I came up to him and asked forgiveness: I said it was my fault. He laughed and said: no big deal, let us both be calmer.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Kazakh?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
