The apartment the realtor showed was close to the center and turned out to be furnished. We formalized the lease for a year, and the deposit equaled one month's payment. We started moving on Saturday: we hired a truck, and two movers carried up the boxes. On the first night it turned out that the kitchen light bulb had burned out and a pipe in the bathroom was leaking. The neighbor we met in the stairwell lent us a drill and a screwdriver. In a month we settled in, and now I send the meter readings myself every month.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What was the apartment like?

  2. What did the deposit equal?

  3. What turned up on the first night?

  4. What does the narrator do every month?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Georgian?

B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
