For two months I looked for work and replied to ten advertisements. From three places I received a refusal, but from the fourth they invited me to an interview. I passed the interview, and a week later I was hired. On the first day I signed the contract and read my duties. There are eight employees in the department, and the colleagues are very friendly. Every Monday we have a meeting where we present the monthly report. The probation period is three months, and I hope everything will be fine.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. How long did the narrator look for work?

  2. How many refusals did he receive?

  3. What did he do on the first day?

  4. What happens every Monday?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Western Armenian?

B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
