Text
ənkers asats, vor nman hnaravorut'yunə hazvadep e galis, yev vor dzhvar t'e yerkrord angam lini. yes kartsum ei, vor gumarə glkhavorn e, bayts irakanum indz zhamanakn er petk'. əndhanur arrmamb, yerku tarberakn el lavn ein, yev vat əntrut'yun chkar. i verjo əntretsi motikə, vorpeszi amen or yerku zham chanaparhin chkortsnem. minch ayzhm chem ap'sosum.Last month I got two job offers and couldn't decide for a long time. On the one hand, the first one's salary was higher, on the other — the office was outside the city. The second was close, but the money was less. My friend said that such an opportunity comes rarely and that there would hardly be a second time. I thought money was the main thing, but in fact I needed time. All in all, both options were good, and there was no bad choice. In the end I chose the close one, so as not to lose two hours on the road every day. I don't regret it so far.
Comprehension questions
The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.
- What was the advantage of the first offer?
- What did the friend say?
- What turned out to be more important than money for the narrator?
- What did he choose in the end?
Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Armenian?
B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
