In Armenian these are what take effort: a brand-new alphabet and aspirated consonants English does not have. Բարև (barev) — hi. sounds like ba-REV, stress on the last syllable, as in almost every Armenian word
Շնորհակալություն (shnorhakalut'yun) — thank you. long word, but only one stress, on the last syllable: shnor-ha-ka-lu-TYUN
Ես (yes) — I. sounds like yes; the letter e at the start of a word gives a ye sound
Մահճակալ (mahchakal) — bed. sounds like makh-cha-KAL, stress on the last syllable
Օճառ (ocharr) — soap. sounds like o-CHARR, with a rolled rr at the end
Ծերունի (tseruni) — old man. sounds like tse-ru-NI; the first letter is a sharp ts, snappier than the ts of cats
Ճաշ (chash) — lunch. the first letter is a sharp, popped ch — harder than in church, softer than j
Ընթրիք (ənt'rik') — dinner. the initial schwa is barely audible: it comes out ntr-EEK, with a puff of air at both ends
Քիթ (k'it') — nose. sounds like khee-T: the air escapes at the start and at the end of the word
Կուրծք (kurtsk') — chest. sounds like koorts-K: three consonants at the end run with no vowel between them
How to work on pronunciation on your own
Listening and repeating aloud is not a platitude — it is the only technique available without a teacher. Saying words out loud gives a small but measured gain over silent reading, and it is also the only way to notice that your mouth is not shaping a sound your ear already tells apart.

Second: listen to whole words, not isolated sounds. A sound never occurs in speech on its own — it always stands next to its neighbours and changes with them.
