Kazakh after Ling: where to pick up

Ling does teach Kazakh: that is its catalog as of September 18, 2026. If you are already learning there, you do not have to start from scratch here: from “Upper-Intermediate” you would continue at unit 4 “Every day”. Your first session is a three-minute check that pins down your place, and the words you have covered come back for review a few at a time.

Ling levels and where they land here

Your place here is set by word count, erring on the low side: an extra familiar lesson costs less than words you do not understand. A three-minute check pins it down.
Level on LingBy our word countLevel: KAZTESTWhere you start here

IntermediateA1elementary levelunit 2 “At the café”
Upper-IntermediateA1elementary levelunit 4 “Every day”
AdvancedA1elementary levelunit 5 “Bazaar and shop”

Ling splits a course into five levels of ten units each: Beginner is units 1–10, Expert is 41–50. It does not map them to the CEFR, so the level in the table is the word count of our course at the point the link puts you.

Our Kazakh course goes up to B1, which is 4039 words. Anything above that is no longer an app's job but exam preparation and real conversation.

What people usually know by this point

Intermediate → unit 2 “At the café”

After this unit: I can order food, ask the price and ask for the bill

  • Сорпа
    Sorpa
    soup
Above all a meat broth, served as a course of its own, not the opener of the meal. A thick noodle soup is "koje".
  • Елу
    Elu
    fifty
A short standalone word. Do not confuse with "el" — country, people: that one has no second syllable.
  • Алтыншы
    Altynshy
    sixth
The stem "alty" ends in a vowel, so the tail is shorter — a bare "-nshy". And it is hard: "alty" is a back-row word, so "-nshy", not "-nshi".
  • қою
    qoyu
    to put
Where takes the to-where tail: "ustelge qoi". A trap: "qoyu" as a quality means "thick".

Upper-Intermediate → unit 4 “Every day”

After this unit: I can talk about my day, my work and my family

Advanced → unit 5 “Bazaar and shop”

After this unit: I can buy food, ask the price and haggle

Expert → unit 6 “At home”

After this unit: I can describe a home, arrange a rental and call a repairman

Kazakh proficiency exam: KAZTEST

KAZTEST is run by Kazakhstan's National Testing Center. Its CEFR levels:

  • A1 — elementary level
  • A2 — basic level
  • B1 — intermediate level
  • B2 — upper-intermediate level
  • C1 — high level

The levels carry CEFR letters, but the center's site does not name the CEFR itself, so treat the match as approximate. There is no C2.

A level in an app is not a certificate. Only the exam gives you one, and the exam includes writing and a conversation with a person: those need their own preparation.

How to switch without starting from lesson 1

  1. Tap your level. The row of links below this page opens Lingofly in Telegram, no install or sign-up. If you are new here, the “Kazakh” course and your Ling level are already selected: you only go through three short screens — language, goal and study time. If you already have an account, add the language and tap “Where to start” on its card in your profile.
  2. Take the check. Your first session is three minutes of “what does this mean?” questions, from easy to hard. Two failed bands in a row and the check ends: we do not drag you through what is too hard.
  3. Carry on from your place. The lessons before your place count as done. Their words come up in your warm-up a few a day: remember one and it is yours; forget it and it comes back again.

Frequently asked

Is Kazakh in Ling?

Yes. The difference is not whether the course exists but what is inside it: how many words, whether each has audio, whether the script is taught from zero. We have Kazakh in full: 4039 words, with audio, the script explained, a phrasebook and grammar in plain words.

What Kazakh level do Ling levels correspond to?

«Beginner» — A1, «Intermediate» — A1, «Upper-Intermediate» — A1, «Advanced» — A1 and «Expert» — A1. Ling does not map its levels to the CEFR, so this is the word count of our course. A three-minute check will show your exact place.

Which exam do people take to prove their Kazakh?

KAZTEST, run by Kazakhstan's National Testing Center, with levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1. An app, ours or Ling, prepares you with vocabulary and listening; the writing and speaking parts need their own preparation.

Will I have to start from lesson 1?

No. Mark your Ling level and your first session will be a three-minute check, not lesson 1. From “Upper-Intermediate” you would continue at unit 4 “Every day”, and the words you have covered come back for review a few at a time. If you already have an account with us, add the language and tap “Where to start” on its card in your profile.
