Jilmoyib, kulib: -ib/-ab — two actions at once

Two deeds in one sentence are held by the tail "-ib/-ab": the first action becomes the background of the second. Jilmoyib gapirdi — "he spoke, smiling". For example: “U jilmoyib javob berdi.” — He answered with a smile. A rule from the Uzbek course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.

How it works

Two deeds in one sentence are held by the tail "-ib/-ab": the first action becomes the background of the second. Jilmoyib gapirdi — "he spoke, smiling".

The tail sticks to the verb stem: kulmoq → kulib (smiling), yigʻlamoq → yigʻlab (crying), ichmoq → ichib (having drunk, in passing). The sound before it is chosen by the last vowel of the word — the familiar harmony.

The background action stands beside the main one and answers "how?": Dori ichib tinchlandi — "having drunk the medicine, he calmed down". The order is strict: the background goes first, the main action closes the sentence.

How the rule settles in your head

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
