Text

  • Geçen hafta alışveriş merkezinden bir deri çanta aldım. Vitrinde çok kaliteli duruyordu, kasiyer de hediye paketi yaptı. Evde baktım: bir kenarında çizik vardı, yani ürün defoluydu. Neyse ki fişi saklamıştım; ertesi gün gidip iade yapmak istedim. Bana aynısından stokta olduğunu söylediler, ben de yenisiyle değiştirdim.
Last week I bought a leather bag at the mall. In the display case it looked very well-made, and the cashier even did gift wrapping. At home I looked: there was a scratch on the side, that is, the item turned out to be defective. Luckily, I had kept the receipt; the next day I went and wanted to make a return. I was told the same one was in stock, and I exchanged it for a new one.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What was wrong with the bag?

  2. What helped return the item?

  3. What did the store offer?

  4. What did the cashier do at the purchase?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Turkish?

B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
