Text
- Rabljen avto sem kupil v ponedeljek in že v torek me je čakal tehnični pregled. V petek je vse delalo in sem se prvič mirno peljal vzdolž nabrežja do službe.I bought the used car on Monday, and already on Tuesday the technical inspection was waiting for me. On the way there, in rush hour, I stood for twenty minutes in front of the same intersection. The mechanic said the brakes were fine, but the headlights were too weak for the tunnel. On Wednesday I got a flat tire on a gravel road and called a tow truck, because I had no spare. On Thursday morning the car wouldn’t start at all, even though the battery was new. On Friday everything worked, and for the first time I calmly drove along the embankment to work.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Slovenian?
B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
